The Advantages of Having a Swim Jet in Your Pool

In Pool Features by Platinum Pools

For baby boomers, Mark Spitz was the athlete who set the standard of competitive swimming while for millennials, Michael Phelps is the epiphany of the Olympic sport.  We all know that these two swimming heroes started their sports careers in their very own backyard.  The notion of swimming from one end of the pool to the other, whether among friends or relatives, not only creates a friendly competition but also creates a good wellness habit.

In 2010, the swim spa made a quiet entry to the swimming pool industry.  By 2013, more and more people had learned of this new item, with the swim spa being popular among baby boomers.   In recent years, swimming machines have become even more popular. We have seen more and more customers requesting to have swimming machine jets installed in their swimming pools.

Time flies and everything evolves fast.  Now, it is easy to have swim jets installed in your pool.  But first, let’s look at what a swim jet is and what some of its advantages are:

What is a Swim Jet?

A swim jet is a pump system that pushes water through nozzles or jets, creating a counter-current in your pool. This function is not limited to swimming; you can also use swim jets for water aerobics, jogging, and therapeutic exercise in your swimming pool.

What are the Advantages of Having a Swim Jet?

The swim jet provides the kind of workout you want at your fingertips. Not only will this pool add-on provide you hours of fun and relaxation, but it’s also available for any swimming pool that is at least 6’x6’.  This makes swim jets perfect for anyone who wants to have the benefits of swimming or working out in a pool, but may be limited by the amount of space they have in their yard or their budget.

Unlike the Swim Spa, swim jets are installed during the construction of a new oasis and don’t take up extra space as the jets are built into the walls of your pool.

When the time comes to decide if you want to include a swim jet in your swimming pool building project, be aware of three crucial factors:

Water Flow

The amount of water that comes out of the jets is measured in GPM (gallons per minute). If the water flow is below 600 GPM, you won’t get the workout you need.  With swim jets, you can control the control of the flow from the equipment.  If you’re doing a “leisure” swim, you can lower the jets to a speed that is comfortable for you.  Otherwise, bring up the speed if you want to burn more calories.

Noise

If you don’t want to have your family or your neighbors annoyed, keep in mind of how silent the swim jets need to be. Swim jet equipment has many levels of noise, thus complete a thorough investigation before you purchase.

Bubbles

Bubbles can be very nice to look at, but when it comes to swimming in your pool, they can make it challenging to see underwater. If your swim jet equipment creates bubbles, then the equipment is pushing from the air and not from the water of your swimming pool.  Eventually, your swim jet will not grant you the workout you want and will consume more energy.  Make sure that the system is working correctly and is entirely bubble-free.

We hope these tips will assist you in finding the swim jet you’re looking for.  Someone in your family may be the future Mark Spitz or Michael Phelps competing in the Summer Olympics.
