Pool Deck: Why is it Beneficial to Have One?

In Ask the Pool Experts by Platinum Pools

Not so long ago, a client told us a story of how his in-laws didn’t bother to add a pool deck to their swimming pool. It seemed that they spent more time to cleaning it rather than enjoying it.

When you invest in a swimming pool, you’ll want to bring your vision to life. You want to make sure your money is being maximized, so size, shape, material, and location should be perfect. Adding a pool deck to the equation is vital and here’s why.

Importance of a Pool Deck?

Better for Your Lawn and Your Pool

Having a muddy lawn surrounding your oasis is not ideal. It is not suitable to be dragging all of the surrounding dirt and mud into a swimming pool. For instance, you will end up doing double the work in keeping the pool clean. If you only have grass as a deck, you need to be aware of a pool’s splash elements because chlorine will kill the grass.

It Makes Your Backyard Beautiful and Functional

Pool decks are lovely for your landscaping and the appearance of your pool. There are many materials and styles available to enhance the outdoor family room which will make you enjoy your pool more when it is integrated adequately into your backyard.

Entertainment

Are you planning on entertaining with your pool? A pool deck is a solution. You will have much more space to spread out your pool chairs to tan and relax. You can put all the typical outdoor equipment on a pool deck, too, like a grill or patio furniture. With a pool deck that leads directly into the water, parties will be easier and more fun. Your guests won’t have to step in any grass or mud to get their ice-cold drink after a long day of swimming.

Which Material Should I Choose?

At Platinum Pools, we offer an array of materials that can make your pool deck and your backyard beautiful:

Brushed Concrete – a leveled layer of concrete with a brush ran over the surface finish. Making the concrete beautiful will depend on the coarseness of the brush bristles. The lighter the bristles, the softer the texture.

Hand Seeded P-Gravel – it is a poured concrete decking with scattered pebbles on the surface. These pea-sized pebbles come in a range of natural colors like gray, white, black, and transparent, and the size can be between 1/8th to 3/8th of an inch.

Deck Coating – comes in all sizes and shapes; it is cooler than concrete decking options. It is slip-resistant and does not stain or mildew.

Pattern Concrete – commonly known as stamped concrete, is a patterned, textured, or embossed Concrete, resembling brick, slate, flagstone, stone, tile, wood, and various other patterns and textures. Stamped Concrete is not limited to pool decks. You can see these on patios, sidewalks, driveways, and interior flooring.

Belgard Pavers – it is a well-known brand name in pavers for pool decking. It is more durable, slip-resistant, flexible to any design, and great for overlay options. Also available in a permeable paver or porcelain paver.

Travertine Pavers – as one of the more popular materials for building luxury pool decks, it is known for its beautiful and hard-wearing characteristics since ancient times. Nowadays, pool builders depend on the material’s porous nature helping it to be more heat resistant and cool to the touch.

Flagstone Decking – is a slab of natural paving, with earth-toned colors, textures, and is idyllic for pool decking. Some of the advantages of flagstone decking include a non-slip surface, moisture, and heat resistance, and resists continuous use.

Tile Decking – it is a material that is eco-friendly, elegant, and resistant. Since some tiles snap together, so it doesn’t require a hammer to install. It comes in an array of materials such as porcelain, stone, and various colors and patterns.

Slate – it is a heavy and durable stone that can be cut to any shape and size. The colors range from dark gray to combinations of colors, including blue. If you want a natural design or a traditional space, then slate decking is the best option.

Artificial Turf

However, if you don’t like these options, we also offer artificial turfs. They are practically maintenance-free and fit any shape or form in your yard. Many of our clients choose this option while combining it with travertine pavers to create an elegant yet functional look.

A benefit to turf is that it’s much more durable than real grass. Artificial turf is designed to withstand a high amount of foot traffic and is not easy to break off and be tracked into the pool. Since it’s so durable, that also means that you won’t have any dead patches or brown spots that can happen so easily with your standard grass lawn. Our Artificial turfs will always look healthy and vibrant.
